Depart early from Mumbai/Pune for the coastal drive down to Velas in Ratnagiri district, reaching the village by late morning. Check into a local Konkan homestay, where lunch is a simple home-cooked Marathi meal of rice, fish, and solkadhi. Post-lunch, the local turtle-protection volunteers run a short orientation briefing covering beach patrol protocol, nesting season behaviour, and the rules visitors must follow near the nests (no flash, keep distance, no handling of hatchlings).
