Harishchandragad Trek from Mumbai

4.7 (88 reviews)

Overview

Harishchandragad is one of the most storied hill forts of the Sahyadri range, perched on the Malshej Ghat escarpment near the Ahmednagar border. Traders and pilgrims have crossed this fort for over a millennium, and its plateau still holds 7th-century rock-cut caves, the monolithic Harishchandreshwar temple, and the Kedareshwar cave โ€” where a Shiva linga stands in ice-cold water you wade across to reach. The trek's headline, though, is Konkan Kada: a vast concave cliff nearly 1,400 ft high that frames what is arguably the finest sunset and sunrise view in the Western Ghats. This overnight trip leaves Mumbai on Friday night, takes the gradual Pachnai route up (the most beginner-friendly of the fort's several approaches), spends the night on the plateau, and descends Saturday morning โ€” back in Mumbai by evening.
